OK, here's my theory why you never see anybody working on the McGuire's exterior any longer: ghost labor. They've gone out, and with the help of a medium, they've contacted the spirit world and hired a bunch of ghosts to work for them. So why do they keep the scaffold? Well, contrary to popular belief, ghosts can't fly. But they can be taught to renovate a building's cheap-ass exterior. Unlike the dwarf army, which you'll recall is probably off fighting the mole people, ghosts don't make very much noise at all. They also don't work very hard, because they barely know what they're doing. Until the dwarfs defeat the mole people that's just the way it's gonna be. You and I are powerless to change it.
