After Hours

Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin. Comic Strip

This is really cute. Serge and Jane just cold doin' "Comic Strip" on some talk show guy's couch in the early seventies. Jane's voice isn't the greatest and she totally screws up, but this is really darling. Brigitte Bardot did the original vocals. That video won't embed, but you can see it here. Bardot's the one in the brunette wig; Serge is the guy who isn't Bardot. And if that isn't enough "Comic Strip" for you, here's something very weird: a teenage Jodie Foster and Claude François singing the tune on a swing! By now, we're in the late seventies and it is legal to sing on a swing. It's not quite as endearing as Serge, Jane and their couch, but close. Foster's French is, as they say in France, très bien. A few years ago, she was in Jeunet's A Very Long Engagement and her French was outstanding. She had me convinced.

Anyhow, I have given you many versions of "Comic Strip" to see. Start watchin'!
