I spent most of yesterday either getting to the fair, being at the fair or getting away from the fair. I knew that the blacktop-stripping operation was coming to our section of 2nd Avenue. But I was a little surprised to see it going full-bore at 9:00 yesterday evening.
Yes, the Army of the Night was using this machine that they also use for strip-mining. The windows right above it are mine, so I had a great view. It was all very loud. The evening went on and naturally, I assumed that the work would stop at some reasonable hour. How wrong I was! There was a respite at around 11:00, but otherwise it went on non-stop until 4:00am. Somebody told me that they didn't even start in till 5:00 in the afternoon. Sheesh, now there's an awful bit of planning! Belltown has the highest population density in the state and you've got epic noise going on until 4:00 in the morning. How's that going to play out?
Of course, there's not a sign of these guys this morning. Fer Pete's sake, they worked until 4:00 this morning! They're all asleep! I sincerely hope they're not planning on returning tonight. Anyhow, this is what 2nd & Blanchard looks like today:
