After Hours

Serge. La javanaise.

Even though this ain't the greatest arrangement in the world, the fact remains that this is the all-time second most popular song in France, or so I'm told. I think that number one is probably the national anthem.

Serge does a little interview after he sings. It translates roughly to this: "This song, this javanaise, which has been so misunderstood because I sing it in javanais. I wrote it for Juliette Greco and gave it to her as soon as she returned from the Americas. I felt like a privileged author when she sang it. And I believe that any worthy author with at least a bit of literary education has wished to write for her."

What does it mean? Who knows? It's still a wonderful little tune.
