After Hours

France Gall. Laisse tomber les filles

Here's a very young France singing a groovy tune by Serge Gainsbourg. I'm thinking she must be around 17 here. If this tune sounds vaguely familiar, you probably heard it in Tarantino's Death Proof. If you haven't seen Death Proof, consider yourself lucky. My, oh my, that was one boring and tedious film. Yeah, Rose McGowan and Rosario Dawson, two of my favorite earth females are in it, but it was still terrible. And on top of that, Kurt Russell seldom turns in a bad performance, but what could he do in this situation? That's right, he turned in a bad performance. I liked Planet Terror loads more. Rose McGowan was far better utilized in that production. She got a gun for a leg! How cool is that?

Anyhow, this is a great tune that doesn't really give away the closely-held secret that France is kind of a terrible singer. It also doesn't reveal just how tiny she is. Based on her standing next to normal-sized people, I'd say that she's no taller than about 5'1". That's like Dustin Hoffmann territory! But we would find these things out soon enough. It was too late; we had a tiny, poorly-singing French pop sensation on our hands by then.
