The 5 Point Changes Hands!
A few days ago I got an email announcing the new owners of the 5 Point at 5th & Denny. The first thing that went through my mind was: How the hell did these guys get my email address? Next, I wondered whether this would do anything to change their cheerfully honest tagline: "Alcoholics serving alcoholics since 1929." Gee, I hope not. Anyhow, the new owners are longtime employee Mandy Park and her partner/luvvar Dave Meinert. They purchased the place from the Smith family, who was represented for decades by local character of note, Dick Smith. He was the one who put the Space Needle periscope in the men's restroom. This used to be the best thing about the 5 Point. Today, it's the second-best thing, right after the chicken fried steak. Honestly folks, I was just there last week and the CFS is as big as your face. The press release vows that no changes will come to the CFS and I believe it, because a press release has never lied to a person ever. The release also reassures us that they won't be taking down the neon sign that reads: "We cheat tourists and drunks." By the way, did you know that the 5 Point is Belltown's oldest bar? Once again, the press release tells us that. Is there any question that press release can't answer?
Meinert also promises a new regime of booth reupholstering, floor tile replacement and hourly calisthenics for hardcore patrons. You can also expect a few changes to the menu, but if they should get all fancy on us, God have mercy on them.

More good news, for Strippers at least, their first drink is 75 cents. They call it! Lucky Strippers.
