Your Sunday Squirrel

Well, it's Monday.  Drat!  Sorry about that.  I haven't been able to make it to Denny Park much lately owing to work and a fine songwriting run.  Today I have the day off, so guess where I'm going.  Yep, Denny Park.  I hope that many squirrels who can hold still for as long as my camera takes to focus will be out.  In the meantime, here is a fellow from a few weeks ago.  Enjoy!

Your Sunday Squirrel

I saw this guy yesterday.  He wasn't friendly  He was eating something that had dirt all over it.  But he held still long enough for my crappy camera to take this picture of him.  In the same tree was a peculiar fellow who only had half a tail.  Other than that, he was quite normal.  He could climb a tree as well as any other squirrel.  He just had half a tail.  I will be on the lookout for him in the future.

The King Is Pretty Much Dead

It's just one wall now.  That was where the screen used to be.

OK, So Bell Street Park

We've been promised a potentially problematic park (ooh, alliteration!) for years now.  I believe it was announced in 2009 as part of the great Stimulus Package.  Did it get built?  Obviously not.  Every year it got kicked down the road another year.  Well, that year is finally here!  Bell St. between 1st and 2nd is the first victim.  They're doing quite a lot of destruction and very little construction, but there is apparently no turning back.  I'm sure it will be nice once it's finally done - whenever that will be - but I'll still make the trip to Denny Park, because, y'know, squirrels.  In any case, I hope that Bell St. Park will be very nice for everyone and not just for people who like to smoke tons of weed or who like to poop in public or sleep on grass.

Your Sunday Squirrel

I ran into four squirrels yesterday and this is the best photo I got of any of them.  I think I need a new camera.

Say Goodbye to the King

Take a last look:
They've had a weird scaffold around the place for the last few weeks, scraping the stucco off the exterior.  I dunno, doesn't that seem a bit strange?  Anyhow, I saw Gone with the Wind and Spartacus here.  I know, back in the day, they used to show those films on Sunday afternoons.  Spartacus would run for four hours, GWTW for five.  I never watched them.  So much talking.  Well, I finally saw them at the King.  And I haven't seen either one since.  Godspeed, King Theater.  In a year, no one will remember you, except for me.

Your Sunday Squirrel

It's a blurrel!  Sorry that I haven't posted anything but squirrels in the last few weeks.  I had a cold all last week, plus I was putting the finishing touches on the album.  It's done, finished, through.  And it's really good, if I do say so.  Anyhow, I'll be trying to notice more things around Belltown.  Until then, enjoy this blurry fellow.

Your Sunday Squirrel

The work on the album continues.  Of course, my part of it has been done for more than two weeks.  I just need to have it mastered.  The manufacturing process follows.  I'm going to hire a radio promoter this time around.  For the previous two albums, I've relied on myself and trusted colleagues to get the word out.  That was ineffective because none of us possessed the necessary ruthlessness.  This is not such a bad thing.  I think we'd all rather concentrate on other stuff.  It's just such a frustrating experience.  It's better left to the professionals.  I look forward to that.

Anyhow, this fellow is the same one from two weeks ago.  This is just a different pose.  He was quite twitchy and evasive, but you can't tell from this photo - or the one from two weeks ago.

Your Sunday Squirrel

Well, I guess it was luck or just plain something-else that I ran into five squirrels yesterday morning in Denny Park.  They weren't overly friendly, but most of them knew that they liked peanuts.  Of course, with that many squirrels, they're quite keen on robbing their fellows, so there was a lot of chasing and a little bit of growling.  Squirrels can growl.  I have learned this.  Anyhow, this guy was one of the five.  He was no better or worse behaved than his friends.  I'm just glad he held still long enough for this picture.

Happy St. Bagpipe's Day

Here is the scene across the street at the Whisky Bar.  I was just sitting here, minding my own business, writing music and such and then - bagpipes!  Lots of them.  They've got an entire pipe band at the bar.  Question: Isn't St. Patrick's Day more of an Irish affair?  I mean, I don't care.  I'm 0% Irish and these guys sound great.  They wouldn't be completely out of place playing the Sts. Cyrill and Methodius Day festivities.  Still, it's a bit odd to have an entire pipe band play on St. Patrick's Day.  Anyhow, the Whisky Bar is proving to be an interesting neighbor.  And I mean that in a positive way.

They have a piper who plays on Fridays.  I was there once for that.  You know what?  Bagpipes are really super-loud.  I guess they have to be if they're to be heard over lochs and leaths and crags and whatnot.  Despite the volume it's a wonderful thing to behold.  I can only guess how loud the entire band is in that enclosed space.  My guess is very.

Well Ireland, Scotland apparently wishes you a happy St. Patrick's Day.
